As a little girl, Jennifer Chaney can remember walking with wide-eyed curiosity through open houses alongside her mother—just for fun. Real estate and design have always been her passions, and now—her successful career. In college, she studied finance and earned a MBA in marketing—an achievement accomplished by the time she was 21. Her education encompasses every facet of the industry, and she has taken that expertise a step further by becoming a Broker and Certified Staging Professional, as well as a design professional. After ten years in the industry, Chaney formed her own real estate brokerage, and in March 2017, her company, Chaney Homes, will turn four years old. In the first three years since she founded the company, her sales volume has grown 189 percent. While she competes with the best of them, Jennifer proudly runs a “boutique brokerage,” whereby clients flock to her for fast results and to reap the benefit of dealing with Jennifer, herself, as opposed to a colder corporate relationship. With a hard-working team to support the office details, Jennifer’s client-driven focus has been at Chaney Homes’ core since inception.

Jennifer serves all of Maryland but finds herself doing business most often in Queen Anne’s County and Anne Arundel County. Over 90 percent of her business is based on repeat and referred clients. “I provide the same level of service to a first-time homebuyer as I would a client looking to purchase a multi-million dollar property,” she says. First-time buyers, who often come into a relationship with an agent having heard their fair share of horror stories, are often surprised at how at ease they feel around Jennifer. “If I can take what could be a stressful decision and make it far less complicated, then I feel like I’ve more than done my job.” She stays in touch with clients mainly through email and social media. She also has quite a following on Facebook, and when it comes to the most popular online real estate hubs today, like Zillow, every one of her over 100 reviews has 5 stars—a “perfect review.”

Jennifer has become well known for being called upon by sellers who, with other brokerages, were having a tough time selling. “I love bringing to light the home’s greatest assets,” she says. The day before Jennifer was interviewed for this article, she was helping a client whose home had been on the market for over four months with another brokerage. The home was vacant, and she staged the property, bringing in furniture and decor. In the process of doing so, she actually increased the selling price, and within one week, she had the home under contract with a buyer. This is not unusual for Jennifer. 41 percent of Chaney Homes’ listings sell in single-digit days on the market, and 60 percent of Chaney Homes’ listings sell on the first six weeks. Staging is a key component of that. Jennifer handles her own photography, since she more than anyone else knows the right angles in which to capture the homes’ unique features. She regularly posts before and after pictures online for her followers, drawing the attention of potential buyers.

Jennifer has now reached a volume of business—$27 million individual sales in 2016 alone—in which she has to come to a decision: slow down or grow. Slowing down, however, isn’t something she does often. A driven and ambitious businesswoman, when top real estate agent in Maryland Jennifer Chaney has a goal, she throws her all into seeing it through with the utmost professionalism. “At the root of who I am is a belief in being kind and being classy,” Jennifer says. She’s looking to bring on team members who live and breathe this philosophy, but she’s doing so deliberately and carefully. While she is looking forward to mentoring newcomers, she wants to ensure she has the infrastructure and systems in place to help them start their careers off the right way.
