Adam began his journey in real estate following a five-year career as a middle school teacher and basketball coach. “From there, I decided to jump into new home sales during a summer break, and never went back to teaching,” says Adam, who relies heavily on his teaching background when working with clients, educating them and holding their hands every step of the way during a transaction.

After nine years with Keller Williams Realty, Adam formed his own company out of that model, that services four states (West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland) and has grown to employ twenty-four other equally dedicated agents who all share his client-first business ethos. One major signifier of Adam’s success is the fact that nearly the entirety of his personal business is based upon repeat clients, referrals and positive word of mouth. “It’s about honesty and integrity,” explains Adam, when asked how he has managed to inspire such impressive trust and loyalty amongst those he works with. “My team and I are consistently available to our clients, and we have a passion for what we do. We work very hard for everybody involved in the transaction. I am not only accountable to my clients, but also the agents who have chosen to be in business with me as well.”

Adam’s likable, empathetic approach to working with clients has also worked well for him and has contributed to his continuing and rapidly growing success story. “I don’t use pushy sales tactics,” says the former teacher. “My approach to every transaction is more about education and nurturing. I employ a lot of ex-teachers, so the education aspect is a unique trait in this industry.”

There are other factors that come into play as well, including fierce negotiation skills and a thorough, intelligent approach to marketing that includes both “old-school” print and high-tech targeted social media advertising. All combined, this translates into fast sales for top dollar, not to mention happy clients who continue to return and refer new customers. As an individual, Adam consistently produces over $16M and volume and has grown, with the help of some tremendous talent on the administrative level, a company producing close to 400 transactions annually. Adam attributes a lot of his success to those that surround him. Lacy Sanders, his Office Manager and Office Transaction Coordinator has been with him over nine years. “Our company culture does not lead itself to turnover, and agents, happy with the comradery of the office and family environment, seem to stick around,” proudly states Adam.

When not working, Adam enjoys nothing more than spending time with his family, which includes two sons, William, age 16 and Wyatt, age 15. He is also actively involved in giving back to his community, which he does through his support of local schools and athletic programs. He is also closely affiliated with the Jefferson County Board of Education and the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce. Adam enjoys the wild and wonderful WV outdoors, kayaking, fishing, hiking, and just relaxing at the pool with family and friends.

4 State has grown to include two satellite offices in Shepherdstown and Martinburg, WV. Adam has big plans for the future of his business, which includes adding more like-minded agents to staff additional satellite offices. 4 State is excited to expand into their newly renovated office space in Charles Town, WV, purchased in 2020 with a move in date of December, 2020.
